Set up a beta crew
- Get every player into the PlaytestAccepted testers can invite up to three Steam friends. Each invited tester can then invite up to three more.
- Update before hostingAll players should finish Steam's current beta update before one player opens a session.
- Name the run's objectiveAgree whether the next trip is for a quest, fuel, materials or a route exit before splitting up.
- Protect the return pathKeep at least one player aware of the train, weather and crew positions while the others search.
- Synchronize quest promptsCompare active tutorial and quest steps. A current report warns that searching ahead of a prompt may block progression.
- Use the in-game server listIf a friend cannot join, align Steam Download Region and avoid relying on Steam Overlay for the current workaround.
Co-op changes the work, not the core rules
A crew can divide scavenging, combat, train operation and defense, but every player still depends on the same source of heat and the same route north. Official material does not announce fixed classes, so roles are situational rather than permanent character choices.
Before an expedition, choose who watches navigation and warmth, who carries tools and who has the best remaining ammunition. Reassign those roles when equipment or objectives change.
Avoid the four-player spread
More players can search more ground, but a widely split crew is harder to extract when weather or combat changes. Use two-person pairs when visibility is poor and tell the group before entering a dungeon, ruin or new quest area.
A player who triggers an objective alone may create a state the rest of the crew does not understand. The current quest-order report makes synchronized prompts especially important during this beta.
Hosting boundary
The public sources reviewed here describe online co-op but do not explain host migration, world ownership or unattended servers. Do not assume another member can continue the same world without the original host.
A dedicated-server request is already visible in Steam discussions, but there is no official package, port list or launch commitment. Use the beta's normal host flow and report connection problems with exact steps.
Sources and context
Official material establishes game facts. Community threads are labeled because a player report is evidence of a question or workaround, not a developer guarantee.
